The blade bit hard and true. I told Sarah not to worry, there would be no pain, and I was right. As my head hits the hard ground, I hope to catch a glimpse of her before I die, before my lights go out forever. Her wail fills the courtyard, the last sound to touch my ears. She’s there in the crowd, tears streaming, holding Tomas. Never again will I hold his hand, inhale his baby scent, or smell her lavender hair. I want to tell her that it’ll be all right, the deed is done. Goodbye, my love, don’t grieve….
